New program to offer employment skills
A new B.C.-funded initiative aims to provide residents of White Rock and South Surrey with skills to find and sustain employment.
Job Options B.C. White Rock (South Surrey) is a 10-week program offered in two phases. Phase 1 offers qualified candidates four to six weeks of intensive job-search training, including short-term orientation training (First Aid, Foodsafe, WHMIS, Forklift, computer basics, cashier, customer service and/or Superhost). Participants are paid up to $250 per week for training assistance and supports.
Phase 2 will provide four to six weeks of work experience including wage subsidies, job shadowing, job mentoring and other supports to facilitate their access into the labour market.
To qualify, clients must be unemployed B.C. residents, 18 years of age and older, not a student, legally entitled to work in Canada, not eligible for Employment Insurance and committed to 10 weeks of training and work experience.
