Money raised for homeless shelters
A South Surrey mortgage company raised more than $1,400 for local homeless shelters and transition homes housing children.
Dreyer Group Mortgages raised the money at their fourth annual Partner Appreciation Event on Oct. 17 for their charity, launched in 2008, called Dreyer Group Smiles.
“This is something that is very close to my heart,” said company president Jared Dreyer in a release. “These kids need our help. They simply don’t stand a chance unless the community gets involved.” In addition to the funds raised at the event, a portion of every mortgage Dreyer Group funds throughout the year goes towards safe housing for kids.
In 2008, researches with the Centre for Applied Research in Mental Health and Addiction (CARMHA) estimated that in the province there were 15,000 homeless people.
