The Cloverdale Chamber of Commerce is once again looking for nominations for their annual business excellence awards, the Clovies.

The awards “provide an opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge local businesses, from west Cloverdale to Clayton Heights,” said Cloverdale Chamber of Commerce director Kristy Hill.

The evening gala, she said, is a way to showcase the best of what Cloverdale’s businesses have to offer, and recognize the people who have a positive impact on businesses and the community at large.

Businesses of all sizes are honoured for excellence in customer service, innovation in their industry and creating a positive work environment for employees. There are categories to honour new businesses, young entrepreneurs, and not-for-profit organizations.

The awards also acknowledge the people that make the community, and local business, thrive.

The Good Citizenship Award will return this year, to recognize a person who “truly cares about Cloverdale and the community,” said Hill. This person can be anyone in the community, not necessarily a businessperson.

Last year, Rick Hugh took home the inaugural award for his decades of work in Cloverdale. He has devoted more than 40 years to being an educator, many of those years in Cloverdale, and he volunteers countless hours within the community.

The person who receives the Good Citizenship Award is a person “who is finding a way to better the community in all kinds of different ways, for all kinds of different people,” said Hill. The person is someone is continually asks themself, “how can I make life better for people in Cloverdale,” she explained.

In a similar thread, the Bill Reid Memorial Business Person of the Year recipient is someone “who goes above and beyond in their field and in their work, making a positive impact on Cloverdale and the Cloverdale business community as a result,” said Hill. “The kind of person who everyone that works with them would have nothing but good things to say about.”

The deadline to submit nominations for the Clovies is Feb. 17, and applications will be made available through the event website, coming soon at theclovies.com. The finalists in each category will be announced in March.

The fourth-annual awards ceremony will take place April 25, at the Northview Golf and Country Club. Early bird tickets are $75, tickets for chamber members are $85 and tickets for non-members $95.
