The South Surrey and White Rock Chamber of Commerce is offering two online initiatives to help support business through the challenges of a COVID-19 Christmas, and promote the ‘shop local’ message.

“As businesses continue to navigate the challenges brought on by the pandemic and what should be one of the busiest times of the year for them, we want to support them as best as possible,” chamber executive director Ritu Khanna said in a media release.

The chamber’s Holiday Season on the Peninsula webpage, at sswrchamber.ca/holidays, provides information on holiday events in the community, and also the chamber’s directory of businesses and information on member deals for seasonal shopping (non-member businesses who also want to add their own promotions to the members deals sections can contact the chamber at events@sswrchamber.ca).

The webpage also offers a ‘Spirit of the Holidays’ section to direct residents wanting to give back this winter to locally-based charities.

To provide further support for business owners, employees and residents, the chamber is following up seven virtual town hall meetings earlier this year with a new edition, Friday, Dec.11 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Among those contributing will be local elected officials, plus representatives from Fraser Health and WorkSafeBC.

The town hall is open to all, but pre-registration is required on the chamber website (sswrchamber.ca).
