Cops for Cancer rolls into town
Nearly two dozen law enforcement officers are to descend on the Semiahmoo Peninsula Friday (Sept. 30), as part of closing ceremonies for the Cops for Cancer Tour de Valley.
Final stops are scheduled at Southridge School, White Rock Christian Academy, Star of the Sea Catholic School and the White Rock branch of Coast Capital Savings – where a head shave and three haircuts are to take place between 10:40 and 11:10 a.m. – before the 21-member team heads north to wrap things up at Holy Cross High School.
Cops for Cancer is an annual event to raise funds in support of pediatric cancer research and children living with cancer. Four teams ride: one in northern B.C., one in Greater Vancouver, one in the Fraser Valley and one on Vancouver Island.
More than a dozen children who have cancer or have survived cancer are involved in the tours. Locally, those Junior Team members include South Surrey's Emmily Eckert.
The Tour de Valley team includes Surrey RCMP Const. Cory McGregor, border services officer Chris Rosenberger and White Rock resident Eric Mead, a deputy sheriff who also rode with Cops for Cancer last year.
