Pitch in for park

Volunteers are needed to help with a habitat enhancement project in Chantrell Park.

Hosted by Sunnyside Acres Heritage Society, the Oct. 29 event is part of ongoing efforts to restore the park to its natural state.

Society president Ron Meadley said a number of groups have already committed to pitch in, but more hands are always appreciated, as there is plenty of work to do.

“It’s quite an extensive area, and it’s hard-going because the blackberry is really thick,” Meadley said.

At the same time, the area is suitable for all ages to lend a hand, he said.

Those interested should meet at 139A Street and 22 Avenue at 10 a.m., dress for the weather and, if possible, bring gloves.

The effort will go ahead rain or shine and refreshments will be provided.

A similar effort in the spring resulted in the planting of about 200 trees and shrubs in the park, as well as removal of invasive species and litter.
