‘Amazing’ response for White Rock/South Surrey's Relay for Life
Tickets to a fundraiser organized to help jump-start the Canadian Cancer Society’s White Rock/South Surrey Relay for Life are on sale now at CCS’s White Rock office.
The event is set for Feb. 23 at Sawbucks Neighbourhood Pub, 1626 152 St. Tickets, $20, may be purchased at 104 15240 Thrift Ave.
With still five months to go before the relay itself – events are held across Canada – organizers say things are looking good.
“Team and participant registration is going amazingly well, we’re already double the registration that we’ve had at this time in previous years,” Shannon Todd Booth, community giving co-ordinator, said by email to Peace Arch News, of interest so far in the 12-hour event set for June 22 at Centennial Park.
The relay challenges participants to come together to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones and raise funds.
To date, 15 teams have signed up.
Longtime relay participant Sue Scott, a City of White Rock employee who lost her husband to cancer in 2004, knows firsthand how important such events are.
“Relay is a fun, rewarding event that is so effortless and gives all participants the opportunity to meet new friends, spend the night in a safe environment, walk at your leisure with new friends, raise funds for the cause and walk away in the morning knowing you made a difference in the cure,” she said in a release.
