The BC Thanksgiving Food Drive collected an estimated 352,000 pounds of food for 50 local food banks throughout the province earlier this month.

Denise Darrell, executive director of Sources White Rock/South Surrey Food Bank, was grateful.

“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of the many individual donors and businesses,” Darrell said of the Sept. 15 event.

“Together, we are fighting hunger and feeding hope in our community.”

BCTFD executive director Andrew Rolfson  said more than 5,200 volunteers provided over 16,000 thousand hours of service to the province on the day.

They visited 182,000 homes, and collected more than 352,588 pounds of non-perishable food.

More than 60 supporting sponsors and supporting organizations took part.

“It was great to see how the residents of our communities came forward to support our project,” Rolfson said.

“The success can be credited to communities selflessly working together donating time, talent and means to meet the needs of others – for this, we are truly thankful.”
