Seventeen local hopefuls are in the running for the Miss, Miss Teen and Mrs. BC Pageant, which will take place June 30.

Sixteen Surrey residents are among the 50 participants. Representing the city are Aisha Hudson, Alexandra Overdiek, Amy Thongsakhom, Angela Siemens, Casey McCarthy, Desaraigh Byers, Gurveen J., Larissa Kroeker, Mary Holt, Megan McKinnon, Megha Suri, Natasha Lal, Nikkie Peters, Olivia Soet, Sharon Sidhu and Stanislava Ludmilin.

Representing Delta is Tanpreet Parmar.

The Mrs. BC Pageant contest was added to the event this year.

“I see no reason why marriage should end someone’s pageant opportunities,” said creator and producer Darren Storsley, who himself was Mr. World Canada 2007.

Previous rules have been lifted for 2014. There is no maximum age limit, nor height and weight requirements. Contestants may be single parents or transgendered, and this year’s roster includes a young lady who is a former competitor in the Special Olympics as well as a contestant with autism.

Last year’s Miss BC winner was Surrey resident Tara Keigher, who was also crowned Miss Fraser Valley 2013.

The charity of the Miss BC Pageant is the Cops for Cancer Tour for the Canadian Cancer Society. Since 2007, the Miss BC Pageant has raised more than $200,000 for the charity.

The public is invited to log on and vote for their favourite contestant for the People’s Choice award at www.missbc.ca. The public is also invited to the Miss BC Talent and Presentation night on Saturday, June 28 at 6 p.m. at the Chief Sepass Theatre (9096 Trattle, Fort Langley), as well as to the final show and crowning of Miss, Miss Teen, and Mrs. BC on Monday, June 30 at 7 p.m. at same location.

The Miss, Mrs. and Miss Teen BC Pageant is already conducting interviews for the 2015 pageant.
