This ant was photographed recently working on a log at Sullivan Park.

A local expert told Black Press the species is a native leaf cutter ant.

Jennifer Grenz, Development and Projects Manager at the Invasive Species Council of Metro Vancouver, said the feared European fire ants "are much smaller and have a double joint between their abdomen and rear end."
