Four local teens have received top honours in a national writing contest in Quebec.

The teens – all students at South Surrey’s Earl Marriott Secondary – were among nearly 200 to enter Atwater Library and Computer Centre’s 150 Words for 150 Years flash-writing contest.

Cindy Zhang, in Grade 12, won the Youth (20 and under) category for her piece entitled “O Maple Leaf.”

Top-5 finishers also included Claudine Paed and Adia Sove (Grade 12), and Jared Schellenberg (Grade 11).

The quartet has been invited to a May 30 awards event in Montreal.

The contest was sponsored by Heritage Canada as part of Canada’s 150th anniversary celebrations.
