Fraser Valley Regional Library presents Animal Daze with psychologist Stanley Coren, Monday, Oct. 22, 7 p.m. at White Rock Library, 15342 Buena Vista Ave.
Author of The Intelligence of Dogs and Why Does My Dog Act That Way, Coren writes enlighteninng books for dog owners, potential dog owners and anyone who enjoys a good dog story.
A professor of psychology and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, he’s the writer of hundreds of articles for scholarly journals and has received countless awards and commendations.

Second and fourth Wednesday afternoons (3-6 p.m.) it’s the venue for an Irish Ceilidh featuring singing and dancing to the music of Harry and Friends.
Every Thursday night at 8 p.m. the club hosts the Crescent Moon Coffee House, a jam session for local musicians.
Every Friday night entertainment includes Irish dancing at 7 p.m. and All Star Karaoke with Bernie at 8 p.m.
On Oct. 28 from 5-9 p.m. the club will hold a costume optional Halloween Dance featuring a spaghetti dinner and music by Rick Leather ($10).
Saturday, Nov. 10 at 8 p.m., the club’s popular impersonator shows return with Jayson Bardell’s tribute to Engelbert Humperdinck, featuring comedian and singer Mike Kinnel ($15); followed on Saturday, Dec. 8 by Barrie Randle’s tribute to Roy Orbison, plus Denim and Lace.
Iguana’s Beach Grill will be the venue for an open mic night every Wednesday, 6:30-10:30 p.m. for six weeks starting Oct. 24.
Hosted by The Blue Voodoo duo (Rick Delgarno and Ted Tosoff) the evening is open to local singers/songwriters/musicians and anybody with a yen for live music.

Peninsula artists will be among those marking International Artist Day by showing works interpreting the life and art of Pablo Picasso, Oct. 26-28 at the Alliance Building, 5712 192 St., Langley.
Special guest artist Chris MacClure will be joined by Bortolo Marola, Lori McPhee, Alan Newman, Fred Paulson, Katherine Siemens, Steve Amsden, Joe Average, Aline Davies, Valerie Deacon, Terry Hill, Mimo K and Darwin Lee for the event sponsored by South Surrey’s Artful Things, which features an artist’s reception Friday, Oct. 26 (7-10 p.m.) and gallery viewing from noon to 4 p.m. on Oct. 27 and Oct. 28.
Part proceeds from the sales of artwork will go towards the Peace Arch Hospital Foundation.
Hot, high-energy Louisiana-style dance band Mojo Zydeco will play its annual Halloween dance Saturday, Oct. 27, 8 p.m. at the Crescent Legion Branch 240, 2643 128 St.
