SENIORS SCENE: Start filling the fall with activities

Registration is now open to White Rock Leisure Services members and opens at 8:30 a.m. next Wednesday for the general public.
Have a browse and fill your fall calendar with movement from fitness, dance or sport classes. Nurture your brain with lifelong learning courses in art, travel and wellness. Feed your sense of adventure with outdoor walks, hiking and bus excursions.

• White Rock Leisure Memberships for 2012 are available for half price at only $16.50.
If you are new to the area or new to 55 – and are interested in joining the Kent Street Activity Centre – this is the ideal time.
Members can participate in a variety of clubs and activities year-round, use the Kent Street lending library and get member pricing on leisure services programs.
Drop by the centre to pick up your membership card.

• Circle Dance lessons for seniors are a great way to get going on Monday afternoons.
Dancing in a circle is an ancient tradition common to many cultures. Circle dances can be energetic and lively or gentle and reflective.
Join instructor Magali Cardoso for 10 fun-filled lessons starting Sept. 24, 1-2 p.m. in Kent Street auditorium.

• Try something new this September and register for Mah Jong lessons.
If you like games that have a twist here and there, you'll like Mah Jong. This game uses tiles instead of cards and involves a combination of skill strategy and chance.
Sign up for lessons and widen your circle of friends – it is a very social game.
Lessons start Monday, Oct. 22 at Kent Street, 10 a.m. till noon.
When ready, drop in Mah Jong group at Kent Street on Mondays 1-3 p.m., or Wednesdays and Thursdays 2:30-4:30 p.m.

• Carlos Rabago will teach Beginner Spanish Language Conversation and Pronunciation lessons to seniors in an informal setting.
This six-session class begins Thursday, Sept. 13, 12:30-1:30 p.m. at Kent Street.
