SENIORS SCENE: Come by for a skate

Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year from the staff at the Kent Street Activity Centre.

Take the grandchildren skating at Centennial Area for a Holiday Break family skate.

The theme skate for Thursday, Dec. 27 is Clowning Around; Friday, Dec. 28 is the Tacky Sweater Skate; and Monday, Dec. 31 is the Rocking New Year’s Eve.

The time is 12:30-2:30 p.m. each day, and admission is only $3.

Then why not try our Restorative Yoga class, starting Jan. 15, Tuesdays at 11 a.m. at the White Rock Community Centre.

This class uses gentle yoga techniques to restore optimal breathing, calming the mind and relaxing the nervous system to regain health and vitality. An additional adult class is offered Wednesdays at 4:45 p.m. Call for more information or to register for this 10-session course, 604-541-2199.

Have you always wanted to learn Spanish but didn’t know where to start? Beginners Spanish with instructor Carlos Rabago will be held on Thursday afternoons at the Kent Street Activity Centre.

This six-session course begins Jan. 17, providing basic conversational instruction in a supportive, informal setting.

Kent Street members can hone their newly developed skills in the Conversational Spanish activity group, held Thursday mornings at 10 a.m. in the Kent Street library.

• Fresh and Lively Luncheon is back in the new year, with friends, food and fantastic entertainment in store for all.

The first luncheon is on Friday, Jan. 11 and transportation is available to help those who are unable to make it to the Kent Street Activity Centre on their own.

• Walking Qi Gong (chee gung) includes a basic meditative walking style, special breathing techniques, and easy-to-learn arm and hand movements.

Simple variations add to the therapeutic effect and improves the flow of Qi (energy). Through regular practise, stress is relieved, co-ordination and balance improved, and the immune system strengthened.

This program will be starting on Jan. 16. Call for more information and to register, 604-541-2199.
