ACTIVE ADULTS: Staying healthy, having fun
It is always good to reflect on your past goals around your health and well-being and to plan your strategy for accomplishing any new goals you have set for yourself.
Remember to listen to your body and your intuition when planning your new routines. Pay attention to what is going on in your life and how you can minimize any stress and improve your quality of life through exercise and perhaps exercise that incorporates a different strategy.
Also, look for more joyful activities like art classes, meditation and music.
Think about the variety of yoga classes offered both at the South Surrey Recreation Centre and at Kwomais Point Park. Chakra Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Yin Yoga, Power Yoga, Yoga 55+, Chair Yoga and even Yoga for Runners are all available for you to explore.
Why not try the Nia workshop on March 3 or a Posture and Balance workshop? Any of these classes will help energize your body, assist with your mobility and open your mind to try something new.
If you are recovering from a fall or an injury, then our Chair Exercise program will not only aid your recovery but will build your strength and mobility and confidence to move on to other programs. This class is offered every Tuesday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and has proven to be a gentle and effective form of exercise.
Our Tai Chi classes also provide a gentle, peaceful balance between exercise and a meditative state of well-being. We offer these at the Rec Centre on Tuesdays from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and at Kwomais on Mondays from 6:15-7:45 p.m.
Another big attraction here at South Surrey is our Line Dancing Level 1 and Level 2 classes on Thursdays mornings that will have you dancing to some great music and stimulating the brain to work extra hard at remembering the patterns while moving your feet at the same time.
Eating healthier plays a huge part in your daily fitness and wellness schedule, so watch your blood sugar by combining carbs with protein and make sure you eat some protein in the morning before you begin your day of fitness.
Remember the importance of hydration and drink water before, during and after exercising. Pack your water bottle and a healthy snack when you are heading to the rec centre.
Remember to ask for help. Here at South Surrey Recreation Centre, the fitness staff is trained in all areas of fitness and for all ages and abilities.
Stay happy and fit by being active! See you at the centre.
