Man escapes flaming car in Surrey
A man is lucky to be alive after a dramatic collision with a power pole in North Surrey this week.
On Wednesday night, a vehicle was heading westbound on 104 Avenue, when it veered off the road and struck a pole near 142 Street, with enough force to shear the pole in two.
The driver managed to escape the vehicle as it ignited and made it to safety with the help of a bystander.
The driver suffered a broken ankle in the accident and several homes in the area were without power for some time.
The cause of the accident is not known at this time, but police say speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors.
Investigators are exploring the possibility of mechanical failure of the vehicle.
