Surrey 'friend' charged in murder of Burnaby woman
A 23-year-old Surrey woman is now charged with second-degree murder in the killing of a Burnaby woman found dead last Thursday in Whalley.
Jessica Ashley Hanley appears in Surrey court Monday.
The victim – now identified as 23-year-old Tashina Rae Sutherland – was pronounced dead at the scene in the 10600-block of 138 Street at about 5 p.m. after medical help was summoned.
"We believe they've known each other for an extended period of time," Surrey RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Barb Creighton said. "We understand they've been friends for a while."
Police said the killing does not appear to be linked to gangs but are not releasing any other information about what happened.
Hanley has no prior criminal record.
