A 14-year-old Korean exchange student who was struck by a car in South Surrey last week has died.

“We got official word this morning,” Surrey RCMP Sgt. Drew Grainger said Monday.

The teen had been described as being in grave condition since the collision, which occurred around 9:30 p.m. Sept. 16 as he crossed 152 Street at 34 Avenue.

Airlifted to B.C. Children’s Hospital with what was described as “significant head trauma,” he was kept on life support until family could arrive from Korea.

The student had been staying with extended family in South Surrey and attending school in Burnaby.

While Grainger did not know exactly when the teen passed away, commenters to Peace Arch News’ online article noted he died Sunday morning.
