Jewelry thief in Newton
Police believe the same man may be responsible for a string of jewelry thefts from individuals in the Newton neighbourhood.
Surrey RCMP told The Leader on Thursday (Oct. 4) that four robberies had been reported to them over the prior week or so.
Police believe it's a crime of opportunity where the thief is targeting elderly people wearing clearly visible bracelets, necklaces and other jewelry. Mounties are urging the public to be discreet about their valuables.
Descriptions of the suspect have been similar in each case, said police.
The alleged thief is described as a white male in his 40s with a slim build wearing blue jeans and a dark shirt. He's also reported to have driven away in a dark coloured, older mini-van.
Surrey RCMP is asking anyone who has any information about these incidents to call 604-599-0502. Victims of similar crimes are also encouraged to contact police immediately after such a robbery.
