RCMP shoot at suspect vehicle near Peace Arch Hospital

Three people were arrested Wednesday afternoon after an RCMP officer fired a gunshot at a suspect vehicle in White Rock.

According to an RCMP release, plainclothes officers were investigating a "known crack shack" near Russell Avenue and Finlay Street around 12 p.m., when three suspects attempted to flee the area in a vehicle. An officer shot at the suspect vehicle, and the three occupants were subsequently arrested.

No injuries were reported.

Shortly after, at the scene, a white taxi was in the middle of the road, its front doors open and the window of its right front passenger-side smashed out. A young woman could be seen behaving erratically, walking around waving her hands in the air and saying, "I didn't know you were going to be here" to a man whose hands appeared to have been secured behind his back.

Former White Rock councillor and MLA Ken Jones, who lives nearby, said he saw numerous plainclothes officers and spoke to a woman who reported hearing a shot.

He also saw police escort an elderly woman from the back of the taxi to a police car.

As of late Wednesday afternoon, traffic remained closed on Finlay Street south of 16 Avenue as officers continued to investigate the scene. According to the release, Coquitlam RCMP Serious Crime Unit is also conducting an independent investigation into the shooting.
