Surrey RCMP nab carjacking suspect
Mounties have nabbed a Vancouver man they believe is responsible for a carjacking this week.
Surrey RCMP on regular patrol in the 13300-block of King George Boulevard identified a vehicle that had been carjacked on Wednesday night.
That was when a man first approached another man in the 14900-block of 108 Avenue.
He shot bear spray at the victim, but was unable to steal his car.
Ten minutes later, a man of the same description approached a woman as she was getting out of her car in the 10500-block of 150 Street.
He asked her for her keys, and she refused. He then turned a medium-sized can of bear spray on her and shot her in the face with it.
He took her keys and made off with her car.
The following day, Mounties spotted that car.
The Integrated Municipal Provincial Auto Crime Team followed the vehicle to a residence in the 11000-block of Ravine Road.
A 20-year-old man from Vancouver, who is known to police, was arrested on Thursday.
Charges of possession of stolen property over $5,000 and driving while prohibited are being recommended while police continue their investigation.
Anyone with further information on these incidents is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or email www.solvecrime.ca
