Input sought for Surrey school budget

What programs would you like to be made a priority in your school? Which services are most important for student success? What resources can schools not do without?

The Surrey Board of Education is inviting the public to provide input as trustees prepare the operating budget for the 2014-2015 school year.

As has been the case in recent years, the district says the programming and service needs continue to outpace the dollars received from the provincial government. That means the board will likely be looking at simply sustaining current school services rather than adding new ones.

This year’s total operating budget for the Surrey School District is roughly $600 million, though a small portion of that is district-generated revenue from things such as facility rental and international student tuition.

The board has been meeting with and gathering input from employees, teachers, parent and community groups. Members of the community are welcome to submit ideas, questions and suggestions in writing to: Wayne Noye, Secretary-Treasurer, School District No. 36, 14033 92 Ave., Surrey, B.C. V3V 0B7; fax: 604-595-6307; e-mail: budget@surreyschools.ca

The deadline for submissions is Feb. 28 at 4 p.m.
