Police have identified a 22-year-old Surrey man as the victim of a targeted shooting in Cloverdale Tuesday evening.

Pardeep Singh was found dead in his driveway in a residential area near 166 Street and 63B Avenue.

According to an Integrated Homicide Investigation Team news release issued just before noon Wednesday, Singh was known to police and had gang associations.

Singh is believed to have grown up in Delta and moved to the Cloverdale neighbourhood about a year ago, although police have yet to confirm these details.

At the scene Tuesday evening, a half a dozen RCMP cruisers descended on the neighbourhood.

Passersby said police arrived at the scene around 9 p.m., while one neighbour noted she had heard multiple shots fired in the area. A coroner’s van was observed behind the police tape.

One neighbour noted the area – two blocks west of the Cloverdale Athletic Park – is normally a quiet neighbourhood; now it’s the site of the City of Surrey’s 33rd recorded shots-fired incident of the year.

Another said officers were focused on a home at the southeast corner of 64 Avenue and 166 Street.

Police had 166 Street between 64 Avenue and 63B Avenue is cordoned off, but officers were not allowing any vehicle traffic even along 64 Avenue between 156 Street and 168 Street. As of Wednesday morning, the streets had reopened and only a tiny bit of police tape was left.

At 11:44 p.m., a Surrey RCMP news release said that a man had been found dead in the driveway of his own home, the victim of what initial investigations hinted was a targeted shooting. The next morning, IHIT confirmed the shooting was believed to be targeted.

According to the RCMP, officers responded to a report of multiple shots fired in the 6300-block of 166 Street at about 8:45 p.m.. Once officers were on scene they discovered a deceased male in a vehicle on the driveway of his home.

“Once officers were on scene, they discovered a deceased male in a vehicle on the driveway of his home,” the release states.

According to that release, the initial investigation revealed that one vehicle, a light-coloured mini van, was seen departing the area. The vehicle was last seen driving east on 64 Avenue from 166 Street.

Officers conducted a neighbourhood canvass and speaking with witnesses to obtain further information.

Anyone with more information is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502. If they wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.solvecrime.ca
