Croc sightings in Surrey? Nope, just a tire, police say

Two calls have now come into Surrey RCMP about a floating tire that looks like a crocodile

SURREY — Surrey RCMP are assuring the public that a marshy area near Highway 17 isn’t crocodile territory.

A crocodile sighting was called in over the weekend but police say not to worry, it was just a tire.

“It sure looks like one,” they tweeted, “but it’s a commercial truck tire!”

On Twitter, Surrey RCMP shared a picture that shows what appears to be a crocodile - complete with what looks like a tail, head and mouth - in a marshy area off of Highway 17th and 104th Avenue.

It turns out, this wasn’t the first call police received about the garbage.

A couple of weeks ago, Surrey RCMP received a report of a crocodile sighting in the same area, but alas, it was just an old tire.

Then again this weekend, the same call came in.

Police say they’re confident it’s not an actual crocodile or alligator.

Surrey RCMP say they hope the floating tire can be removed so they don’t have to waste police resources responding to any more calls and, of course, so it doesn’t continue to freak out the public.
