The Delta Police Department is joining forces with a bike registration program to help reunite owners with their lost or stolen bikes.
The new program, called Delta 529 Garage Bike Registry, is a collaboration between the DPD and Project 529, a U.S.-based bicycle reporting and recovery network.
The program has been adopted by more than 25 municipalities and 100 bike shops in B.C., and in Vancouver saw more than 200 bikes returned to their owners in the last 12 months.
On Dec. 16, Delta police will be launching the bike registry at Cap’s South Shore Cycles (7917 120th Street). From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., bicyclists can stop by the shop to register their bike for free in less than five minutes.
The police department hopes to expand the program across the city in 2018, and also plans to have 529 Garage pop ups at community events.
