Girl, 14, grabbed from behind in North Delta

Police are looking for witnesses after the incident in the 11600 block of 82 Avenue

Delta police are asking for information after a 14-year-girl was grabbed from behind while on her way to school.

The teen was walking in the 11600 block of 82 Avenue at around 8 a.m. on Thursday when a man grabbed her around the waist, police said. She was able to get away and reported what happened to school staff. She was not hurt.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 60s, 5’8”, with slim build, wearing a black jacket, white t-shirt, and blue jeans with flip-flops. He was holding a paper bag with alcohol inside it.

Anyone with information or potential video of the incident is asked to contact Delta police at 604-946-4411 and refer to file 2017-26048.

“The Delta Police are actively investigating this incident and working closely with the Delta School District to ensure the ongoing safety of all students,” the department said in a statement.

They also released the following tips for parents and kids when walking to school:

Where possible, walk with a friend or group of friends

Wear bright clothing and walk in lit, high traffic areas

Minimize distractions: remove earphones/earbuds

Walk directly to your location on a known route

Immediately report any suspicious circumstances to an adult and police.
