Surrey RCMP have alerted commuters to avoid the 6000-block of 168th Street, as it’s closed at 60th Avenue due to a “serious pedestrian collision.”

The collision happened at approximately 7 a.m. this morning, according to RCMP. A vehicle turned left onto 60th Avenue and struck a woman crossing in the crosswalk.

The pedestrian, in her mid-20s, is in serious condition.

Surrey RCMP Corporal Scotty Schumann said that RCMP “would get to the bottom of it through our investigation.”

“Something that we’ll be looking at is where the sun was in relation to the driver,” he said. “That could have been a factor.”

For now, the northbound lane of 168th Street is closed at 60th Avenue.

Schumann said that investigators will be on scene for “another hour or so,” and to avoid the area if possible.
