SURREY — Model Veronica Belle wants your vote in a "Curvy Casting Call" contest put on by a Canadian retailer that sells plus-sized clothing.

The winner of Addition Elle's model search will have a chance to walk a runway show at New York Fashion Week, among other prizes.

Belle, a South Surrey resident whose real name is Vanessa Klein, began modelling two years ago.

"I was diagnosed with Polycyclic Ovarian Syndrome about five years ago, which meant that I drastically gained weight over the next few years, pretty steadily," Belle told the Now.

"I lost about all of my self-confidence," she added. "I auditioned for Forever Yours Lingerie for a model search for their annual charity fashion show, and was chosen. That's where it started."

Delving into lingerie modelling was a little scary, she says, considering how she felt about her "new" body.

"But being in front of a camera, or walking the runway, made me feel empowered," Belle explained.

"I've learned to love my body no matter what size it is, and I hope I can be an example for other women, and try to help them get back or gain body confidence too."

"The first round of voting is only until April 5th, then if you're in the top 20 you make a video and people vote on that," she noted.

To date, she has 312 votes in the contest. The winner will be announced on May 9.

"I love singing, nerding out to all things Disney, reading, making people laugh, and going on as many adventures as I can," Belle notes on her contest web page.
