Langley RCMP have identified the woman who was found deceased in a pond in Campbell Valley Park on Monday.

According to Cpl. Holly Largy, the family has been notified and police are confident the death was not the result of foul play. They will not publicly identify the woman.

“Langley RCMP Client Support and Victim Services are working with the family during this very sad time,” said Largy.

Langley RCMP were called to the pond in Campbell Valley Park after the body was discovery round 3 p.m. Monday by a group, including, school children on an outing with their teachers, according to a parent who told the Times “the kids are very traumatized.”

Langley school district communications manager Ken Hoff told the Times a group of about 10 elementary school students were on a nature walk with teachers when the body was spotted.

“We’re not sure how much they (the children) witnessed or didn’t witness,” Hoff said. The children were quickly removed from the scene and counselling was being made available, Hoff said.

The deceased is a woman believed to be in her 60s.

Langley RCMP issued an appeal for public help to identify the woman.

“The E Division Dive Team was called to recover the body from the water and investigators from General Duty and Serious Crime are working with the Coroner to further the investigation,” the police statement said.

Langley RCMP are grateful for the public response that helped identify the woman.
