HAYES, ALICE

Alice Nina Hayes passed away peacefully at White Rock, BC on Saturday, June 12, 2010, at the age of 87. She was born on September 7th, 1922 in Victoria, BC, grew up in Goldstream, BC and then raised her family in Duncan, BC. Alice and her late husband Frank owned and operated a grocery store in Duncan from 1956 to 1973. Alice moved to White Rock in 1985 to be near her family.

Lovingly remembered by her family; daughter Sharon Shackleford and her husband Barry of South Surrey, daughter Irene Carter and her husband Brian of Richmond, granddaughters; Vicki Shackleford of White Rock, Lori Sidjak and her husband Brad of Delta; Kyla Carter and Tanis Carter of Richmond and great grandchildren Mitchell and Erin Sidjak, Stephanie and Connor Simmons. Predeceased by her husbands Grant Deuchars (1944) and Frank Hayes (1970); as well as her sister Winnie Cole and her brother Charlie Linton.

Alice had been active with the Ladies' Evening Guild at St. Mark's Church in White Rock. A special thanks to all the nurses and staff at Westminster House nursing home who took such excellent care of "Nanny" in the past few years. A memorial service will be announced at a future date. Alice will be laid to rest at Valleyview Cemetery in Surrey, BC. Flowers gratefully declined, but memorial remembrances may be made to the BC Cancer Agency or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
