Alice (Jean) Poelvoorde

November 25, 1924 – April 20, 2017

Beloved mother, grandma, sister, and friend, Jean Poelvoorde passed away peacefully at Guildford Seniors Village on April 20, 2017. She is predeceased by husband Albert Poelvoorde, brother Larry McGinnis, son Doug Poelvoorde, daughters Marilyn MacDonald and Sharon Avey. Her immediate family: Sister Lillian Rhonke, son Dr. Jim Armstrong, daughter Ann Gervais, and grandchildren Lexie Flasch, Chris Poelvoorde, Rebecca Avey, Jonathon Avey, Nathan Armstrong, Robin Armstrong, and Morgane Armstrong, and seven great-grandchildren will greatly miss their cherished mom, grandma, and great-grandma.

A resident of White Rock for over 60 years, Jean worked at the Surrey School Board for 18 years where she made many lifelong friends. After leaving the School Board, she began a new career as a successful florist, owning and operating The Flower Nook in Ocean Park. Jean was an amazing cook and loved to entertain and bring people together. She loved a party! We will always treasure the beautiful dinners she made for us and how special she made holidays and birthdays for our family. Jean was a long time member of the White Rock Baptist Church and a Pioneer Group Leader. She sat on the Board of Baptist Women of B.C. Her job was to visit and speak at various Baptist Churches throughout B.C. Jean was also a former President of the Mission Circle.

All of Jean’s family and many dear friends, whose lives she greatly enriched, loved her for her warmth, kindness, generosity, and sense of humour. Jean will be greatly missed and remembered with much love. A special thank you to two of Jean’s dear friends, Gail Howden and Norma Galvez, for their unwavering love and friendship to Jean. Thank you to the staff at Guildford Seniors Village for their compassionate and loving care of Jean over the last two years. A memorial service will be held on July 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at White Rock Baptist Church.
