Dr Darrel Hunter

April 8, 2007

HUNTER: Dr. Darrel Wilson, B.A. DDS. June 8, 1934 - April 8, 2007. Proud to be one of the "Rain People" Darrel was born and raised with his twin brother in the remote community of Ocean Falls, B.C. He worked summers in the pulp mill and on the logging booms of Ocean Falls while completing a B.A. at UBC. In 1961, he and his brother Bryant both completed dental degrees; becoming the first twins to graduate from the same dental class at the University of Toronto.

Darrel started his career traveling to Northern B.C. for the government and then set up practice in Richmond along side his twin brother. From 1968 - 1973, during his early career and births of his four children, he took leaves of absence to work in Northern Manitoba and the N.W.T. The family eventually settled in South Surrey and he continued his practice in Richmond until his retirement in 1989. His gentleness as a dentist was well regarded by all his patients.

Dad had a wicked sense of humor and could engage an audience with his master storytelling skills. He enjoyed his final years at the family home in South Surrey, tinkering around his yard and shop; walking his dogs; and admiring his latest "gem" from the local flea market.

He is survived by his children; Iain

(Monique), Leah (Greg), Andrew (Laura), and Kevin (Marlene) and his grandchildren; Anthony, Hunter, Samuel, Austin, Joshua, Georgia, and Dominique.

A private graveside burial will be held

on Tuesday April 17th, 2007 with an open house reception celebrating his life following at Victory Memorial Park, 14831 - 28th Ave., South Surrey, BC. 1:30 - 4:00 pm. A special thank you to Terry and Sam for always keeping a watchful eye out for Dad.
