March 29, 2005

ROBERTS - Edward Carew Warden (Ted) passed away peacefully March 29, 2005 at Peace Arch Hospital in the loving arms of his daughter. Dad fought cancer with courage, dignity and humour right to the end. Predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Dorothy (2003); brother Dick (1999); sister-in-law Joan Roberts (2004); niece Faye Roberts (1971) and nephew Karl Klotz (1977). Dad's love, guidance, laughter and teasing will forever be missed by beloved daughter Donna (Cameron); son Doug (Laurie); grandsons, Ryan, Shawn (Cheri), Alex (Shanon), Shayne; sister Margaret; brother Jack (Beth); special niece Anne (Shaun), and his little ray of sunshine, Courtnay Klotz who would always brighten his day with her visits, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, both in Canada and in England, as well as many friends and lifelong RCAF friends here and across Canada whose lives he touched in so many ways. Dad was born to Julia and Albert Roberts who were early pioneers in Peace River on April 10, 1920 at Lake Saskatoon, AB. Raised on a farm he left in 1941 to join the RCAF and spent WWII in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales working on his beloved Sunderlands with the 422 Squadron. After the war he re-enlisted and in later years was with the 419 Squadron. On May 14, 1947 in Vancouver he married the love of his life, Dorothy. Over the ensuing years he had postings across Canada and Germany. Dad retired from his military career in 1969 and they moved to Richmond. In 1994 they moved to White Rock where they enjoyed long walks along the beach, fish and chips and beautiful sunsets until Mom's passing. Dad will forever be remembered for his love of family and friends, travel, woodworking, curling, his absolute passion for teasing, practical jokes and a good meal (pork and beans). Dad was a gentle and loving soul who said his life really began when he met and married his beloved Dorothy. Dad was a member of the Legion, Crescent Beach Branch #240. The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to Dr. G. Werner Spangehl for all his home visits, his kindness, support and loving care to both Dad and Mom during their battles with cancer. A Memorial Service celebrating Dad's life will be held April 10, 2005 at 1:30 pm, Fraser Heights Funeral Home, 14835 Fraser Hwy., Surrey, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dad may be made to the Gizeh Shriners Patient Transportation Fund, 3552 Wayburne Drive, Burnaby, BC, V5G 3K9, or a charity of your choice.
