HENDERSON, Edward Wilfred

April 21, 1919 - January 4, 2009

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Ed Henderson on January 4, 2009 in White Rock, B.C. He was 89. He will be greatly missed by Milly his wife of 67 years; his children Ronelda, Marilyn (Ernie), Kathryn (Dwight), and Melanie (Gary), his 6 grandchildren; Edward, Rachael, Ellen, Erin, Taryn, and Kelly, his 9 great grandchildren, his sisters Audrey and Shirley, and his brother Ray. Ed was predeceased by his son Bob, and his brothers Ken and Jack.

Ed was born in Transcona, MB, the eldest child of Doris and Edward Henderson. As a boy they moved to Melville, and he had fond memories of growing up there. In 1939 his first job took him to Saskatoon where in 1940 he joined the Royal Canadian Navy, serving his country for 5 years. Shortly after enlistment he met Milly and they were married a year later while he was on leave. They settled in Saskatoon in 1946 and in the ensuing years Ed began his long enjoyable career with Canada Post. In 1991 they moved to White Rock and Ed took up golfing and became a great fan and season ticket holder of the Surrey Eagles. He was active in the Fraser Valley West Branch of the FSNA and held the office of Treasurer. Ed liked to read, watch sports and spend time with his family and friends. He touched many people in his life, and he will be missed for his honesty, integrity, and kindness to all who knew him. The family would like to extend their extreme gratitude to Dr. Raffle and Cheryl and to the Peace Arch Hospital especially the Palliative Care nursing staff. In lieu of flowers a donation to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. A private service will be held for family and friends.
