Einar Smerdal

October 24, 2002

Passed away at Peace Arch Hospital on October 24, 2002 after a thirteen year brave struggle with failing health. He was born in Norway on July 19, 1929.

Einar is survived by his loving wife, Lucill, son Kraige, grandchildren Alexandra, Rebecca and Darian. His relatives in Norway include his sister Maggi (Jostein) Opdal, nephews Erling (Ann Torunn), Arnstein (Mimi), Jan (Katrin) and their families. In Canada he leaves behind the extended families of Ken Christensen, Virginia (Donald) McKinnon, Marjorie (Ed) McLean, Lloyd (Myrtle) Christensen, and Barbara (Kent) Jacobsen (California).

All Einar's adult life, he was involved in maritime operations. Einar will be lovingly remembered by all of his relatives and friends for his good nature, sense of humour, and devotion to his family. Although he was proud of his native land, Norway, he dearly loved his adopted country, Canada. Every day at his residence he flew the Canadian flag - now at half mast in his honour.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Pretty and the staff at Peace Arch Hospital. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice. Einar wants his relatives and friends to cherish his memory, but he has requested no service be held. Einar's life will be celebrated by his immediate family at a private gathering.
