Herbert UMANN

UMANN – Herbert (Herb)

Aug. 20. 1928 – Jan. 8, 2009

After a brief stay in Peace Arch Hospital, Herb passed away peacefully on Thursday morning January 8, 2009 with his wife Sigrid by his side. Born in Tiefenbach, Cze and with an engineering degree from Staatliches Holztechnikum in Bavaria in 1956, Herb and Sigrid emigrated to Canada in 1959. They lived first in Ontario, then moved to BC, finally settling in Ocean Park in 1991. Herb was well respected in his profession and retired in 1993 after 28 years with Weldwood. He was a member of the Science Council of BC. Herb will be remembered for his dignity and good humour. He was a gentleman in the true sense of the word, and dealt with his failing health with patience and with appreciation for the devotion and care he received from Sigrid. They were very happy to be able to celebrate 50 years of marriage in August of 2007. Herb will be dearly missed by his wife Sigrid, and by numerous relatives, friends and work colleagues both in Europe and Canada. There will be a gathering of friends at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre 14831 – 28th Avenue, Surrey, BC in the Tea Room on Thursday January 15, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. If you wish, memorial donations in Herb’s name could be made to a charity of your choice.
