Hugh Currie

January 6, 1913 to August 13, 2006.


Survived by Helen, wife of 68 years; two children Roberta (Tom) Feely and Tom (Arlene) Currie; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

After graduating from Vancouver Tech he went to work at the post office in Cloverdale for a short time.

He then went into business for himself as an egg wholesaler and chicken farmer.

He met Helen at a Young Peoples' function in 1937 and they married January 12, 1938.

Hugh was a very active member of the Cloverdale United Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and several different positions on the Board until 1986 when they moved to White Rock. Hugh also served on the Board of Directors for Ocean Park United Church Camp, for which he held a special fondness to his dying days.

Hugh was a lifetime member of the Cloverdale Masonic Lodge, and also a member of Friends of the Surrey Museum and Archives Society.

He served on the Surrey Memorial Hospital Board of Directors a total of fourteen years, from 1948 to 1975. Hugh was also a volunteer at the Cloverdale Firehall during the War.

He was a member of the ARP.

Hugh's pride and joy was his Sunday School boys, with whom he kept contact until the end.

Recently he was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and White Rock Hospice.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2006 at Cloverdale United Church, 17575 - 58A Avenue, Cloverdale.

In lieu of flowers Hugh requested a donation to a charity of your choice.
