NIGHTINGALE, Jack

August 18, 1917 - December 8, 2008

Jack passed away at Peace Arch Hospital with his loving family at his side. He is survived by Freda, his wife of sixty-three years; his four daughters, Rita Thompson (Gary), Judy Chipperfield (Don), Shelley Nightingale, Debbie Grayston (Paul); five grandchildren, Lisa (Arjen), Lori, Trevor, Taylor, Jonathan (Kelly); great - grandson Kaiden and great - granddaughter Teegan. Jack had strong ties to South Surrey and White Rock for 60 years. He enjoyed a successful teaching career in both the Surrey and Vancouver school districts, and upon his retirement became a realtor in the area. Jack was a man of many interests and talents. He was an avid chess and scrabble player, an enthusiastic Blue Jays fan, and he was known for his beautiful gardens. His family, though, was what he held most dear, and of which he was always very proud. He marked special occasions with poems and songs, and those words are treasured by his family today. A man of vision, Jack's drive and determination allowed him to live life to the fullest.

In appreciation of the compassion and kindness showed by Dr. Joshi and the 5th Floor nursing staff, donations to the Peace Arch Hospital Foundation would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 15th (2:00 p.m.) at Victory Memorial Chapel, 14831 28th Avenue, Surrey. Reception to follow.
