JAMES HAMMOND LYDER, P. ENG.

April 14, 1920 - May 3, 2010

Dad was born and raised in Vancouver along with his three sisters May Woodrow, Lucille Young and Shirley Thompson who have all survived him. This is where he met the love of his life Dorothy Whitby at the YMCA Christmas dance in 1937. He married Mom, on October 17, 1942 and raised their 3 children in Vancouver. That's us; Margaret (Greg) Holmes of Brampton, ON, Donald (Sharon) Lyder of North Vancouver, B.C. and Pat (Gordon) Robertson of St. Ives, B.C. Dad has 4 grandchildren; Kim (Greg) Holmes Yantz, Shannon Holmes,

Nyree Gustafson, Jason

(Ashley) Lyder and three great grandchildren Jayna and

Cohen Yantz and Sienna Gustafson. Dad asked for no fuss and an obituary notice that was only 'this' long but we need to tell you he had a great life, was a wonderful husband, father and friend. He went in hospital the day before his 90th birthday but enjoyed life fully until then. He chose to join Mom on what would have been her 91st birthday having missed her terribly for the past 6 years since her death. We will have that family birthday dinner for Dad that we had to cancel when he went in

hospital and we hope you will have a toast to a very special citizen. He asked for no

flowers but do give to your

favorite charity or donate a day of volunteering in his honour. A special thank you to all the wonderful care givers at Peace Arch Hospital who helped Dad and us deal with his passing.
