John Gerrard Stewart

November 10, 2002

Born June 11, 1947 in Fernie, B.C. passed away suddenly in Crescent Beach, B.C. on November 10, 2002. The youngest son of Kenny and Margaret (Lamb) Stewart, John was raised in the Rockies with older brothers Edwy and Duncan, and twin sister Sally (Peers).

After many memorable years at UBC where skiing, playing guitar and general carousing were paramount to traditional studies, John eventually graduated with a degree in economics and English. His first career had little to do with these topics: carpentry. He was known for his attention to detail, innovation and craftsmanship. It was during these years that John met, courted and married Sally (Canby) from Philadelphia. They bought and renovated a home in Crescent Beach that has been filled with love and laughter for many years. Over time, Sally and John were joined by daughters Maggie (Shahin) and K.C. He also lived to see pictures of his baby grand-daughter Azat. John lived his life to the fullest.

He never backed down from a challenge, never passed up an opportunity to experience something new, and never let business get in the way of fun. His girls knew that Daddy only worked on rainy days so that they could spend as much time as possible at the beach. Never a shy man, John Stewart made friends in every endeavor that he pursued. As a contractor, as the ring-leader of La Fete, and as the captain of the Raven Cottage and Crow's Nest crew he touched many lives.

His twinkling eyes, signature laugh and booming voice will be sadly missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in John' s memory to your local hospice society or to the IFEA scholarship in his name.
