Johansen, Josephine Graham

Mar 16, 1915 - Aug 08, 2009

Josephine died peacefully on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Delta View where she was fondly known as JoJo.

Josephine was born on Rose Spit on the Queen Charlotte Islands to Howard & Florence Carpenter. She was the last survivor of her three siblings. Josephine lived on the Queen Charlotte Islands until her marriage to troll fisherman, Karl Johansen (deceased) in 1940. They spent their married life on the Sunshine Coast, in Aldergrove and Langley.

Josephine is survived by 3 children, 3 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and relatives in Prince Rupert, Vanderhoof area, Jasper and Norway. All will remember that she lived her life with dignity and grace, always considering the welfare of others.

Josephine loved language and languages. She was a great reader and a strict grammarian, frequently correcting her children's syntax and pronunciation. In school, she studied French and Latin. She taught herself Norwegian so she could communicate with her in-laws in Norway. Her letters to friends and family were frequent and a delight to read. For recreation she studied Japanese & Russian. Alzheimer's robbed her of her ability to communicate in many ways.

Josephine loved outdoor activity, picking spruce cones, cutting firewood, cultivating a large garden, picking berries and walking her canine companion, Brutus. She was a talented artist, excelling in painting and photography and in the handcrafts of knitting and sewing.

Respecting Josephine's wishes, she was cremated. A private memorial will be held later. The family wishes to thank the personnel at Delta View for their exceptional care. They became part of her family during the last years.

In memory of Josephine, please share a smile and a family story. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Respectful, Articulate, Curious
