MOONEY, Lottie

October 19, 1920-March 1, 2017

Lottie was the third youngest of twelve siblings, all of whom have predeceased her. Her parents were Gerhard Giesbrecht and Elizabeth Loewen. She grew up on her parents’ farm in the Clearsprings district near Steinbach, Manitoba. Lottie went to Normal School in Winnipeg to become a teacher and taught in rural schools prior to her marriage to Isaac Mooney in 1944. In later years she taught students with special needs. She and Isaac farmed in the Giroux and Steinbach areas and retired to White Rock, BC in 1980 where they quickly became involved in the community. Lottie enjoyed lawn bowling, curling, travelling, bridge, volunteering at the Super fluity Shop for the Hospital Auxiliary and regular attendance at First United Church in White Rock. She was predeceased by her husband in 1987 and is survived by her children Tom and Susan Mooney, Doris and Don Slind, and Marjorie Mooney. She will be remembered fondly by her grandchildren and spouses, Theressa Slind and Travis Myrol, Tim Slind and Xavier Bertothy, and Chad Slind and Jilian Chubak. Her only great grandchild, Katherine Slind Myrol, always made her smile. Friends and family will remember her as generous, hard-working, loving, with a touch of frugality and a reverence for punctuality. She will be missed.
