June 14, 2007

TREWHELLA - Malcolm Ian Martin February 7, 1946 - June 14. 2007

"When you are sorrowful look again into your heart and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight". Mal passed away peacefully after a courageous and determined battle with cancer. With his death a void has been created in the lives of all those he touched. Mal's father Ian passed of cancer in 1982, Mother Diana will miss them both deeply. He will be remembered with love and affection by Denise, his devoted wife. Malcolm will also be deeply missed by first wife Sylvia, and will forever be in the hearts of daughters Chrissie & husband Rob, Lorraine & husband Brian and exceptional granddaughter Jordan. Loving sister Valerie & husband Rick, nieces Mandy, Jacquie & Teresa, as well as many loyal friends will all miss him terribly. There was no end to the lengths Mal went to ensure that his family and friends received unconditional and unwavering support and love throughout his life. He was always available to listen and had the wisdom to know when and how to offer advice. Mal began his life in England, and after completing his schooling he began a career in the banking industry. After marrying Sylvia Gurney in 1969, he emigrated to Canada with his young family in 1974. He settled in White Rock where he and Sylvia raised their children and in 1976 changed careers to a BC Transit Operator. In 1998 he married Denise Elo and at 55 years old he retired to live on Cortes Island. He designed and built a family home there for himself and Denise so that his daughters and their families would always have a place to visit. Through his life he was an avid gardener, photographer and artist. He loved fishing, Canucks hockey, English soccer, golf and music...especially the English band, The Shadows. Mal travelled extensively all over the world and passed this love on to his daughters. His daughters are creating a memory bench. If you would like to be a part of the Mal Trewhella Memorial, donations will be graciously accepted at CIBC Branch #02920, Account #84-94436 .
