FAWCETT

Mary Andrina Fawcett passed away peacefully on the sunny, spring morning of March 6th, 2010 at the age of 84. Born July 13, 1925, Mary was the daughter of Percy and Mary Young. She and her older twin sisters, Jessi and Lou and younger brother Ed grew up in Winnipeg. Once she graduated high school, Mary decided to go on her own adventure and moved to Victoria, BC. Soon after arriving to the West Coast, she met Ernest Fawcett, "Ernie" and they were married Aug 10, 1945. Ernie lovingly referred to Mary as "May" (her maiden name initials). Ernie worked in the Air Force, and as a result they moved often. Over the years they lived in various cities throughout BC, Alberta, and Manitoba and they even spent four years in Germany. After years of moving around they came back to BC and settled in White Rock together. Mary worked for many years at the Peace Arch Hospital where she developed some long-term friendships with other Peace Arch employees. With her husband, Mary had three children: Sue, Art, and June, four grandchildren: Tammy, Jill, Leanne, and Andrina, and three great-grandchildren: Samuel, Bodhi, and Sequoia. Mary also became a mother-in-law to Anne, Mike, and Colin. Throughout the years Mary and Ernie were very close with Ernie's sister Betty and her husband Bruce Lewis. Mary and Ernie were married for 59 years before Ernie passed away by Mary's side in 2005. For the past two years Mary lived at the Evergreen Baptist Care Home in White Rock where the staff took excellent care of her in the years and absolutely loved ice cream. She was a hardworking, loving, and generous woman who till her last day was fondly described as "feisty" by all those who met and knew her. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
