Mary Short

With sadness we announce the passing of Mary, at Peace Arch Hospital, on May 3, 2006.

Mary was born in Shedden, ON, on August 12, 1925.

In 1935 she moved with parents and brothers to a farm in Sunniebend, AB. She married Elton in 1944 and their first home was in Victoria, where

Elton was stationed.

After the war, they returned to Pibroch, AB, and lived on a farm.

While there, five of her eight children were born.

In 1960, they sold the farm and moved to White Rock.

Mary was a devoted wife and mother.

For years, she was active in the United Church Women’s group and her knitting club, the Knit Wits.

She loved to play crib, knit, crochet, do crosswords, put

jigsaw puzzles together and have grandchildren visit.

Her favourite thing was to have her family close around and she enjoyed to the fullest, all the big family gatherings.

She is admired and loved dearly by all who knew her.

We will all miss her.

She leaves a large empty space in a very full house.

Mary is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Elton; her children, Rita (Don), David (Lynne), Philip (Patricia), Dana (Barb), Jim (Darlene), Brenda (Ivan), Gregg and Lisa; her grandchildren, Jeff, Danny, Marla (Rich), Heather, Tricha (Matt), Carley, Tamara (Kevin), Ryann, Erin, Jesse, Justin, Megan,

Teresa, Jamie and Johnathan; great-grandchildren, Kasara, Noah and Taylor; brothers and sisters, George (Anna), Don (Helen), Bill (Myra) and Shirley.

Elton and family would like to thank the Peace Arch Hospital Staff for their excellent care during her short stay. We would also like to extend special thanks to

family and friends for all their support.

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Saturday May 13th at 2 pm, at the First United Church, 15385 Semiahmoo Ave., White Rock. Reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to B.C. Children’s Hospital

or a charity of choice.
