Olive "Stevie" Lockhart

March 11, 2003

Passed away peacefully in St. Mary's Hospital, Sechelt, B.C. on March 11, 2003 at the age of 84, after a short fight with cancer. Predeceased by her loving husband Alex (January 8, 2003), sister Muriel and brother Gerrald. Survived by her children Diane (Stan) Anderson, Sandy (Pamela) and Mac (Elizabeth), 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and brother Bob. Stevie was born in Smithers, B.C. in 1918 and spent most of her childhood in this small town and maintained her friendships over the years with her childhood girlfriends. She became a nurse, doing her training at St. Paul's Hospital, graduating in 1940. She persisted in her defence of free speech and fun and left a hilarious legacy of stories in her wake. 1940 was the year she met Alex and they were married in Ladner, B.C. They had 3 children and were off on stints to Billings, Montana and Toronto and then settled for good in Vancouver. Retirement years took Stevie and Alex to Sechelt. Stevie enjoyed people and they enjoyed her. She made lifelong friends wherever they went, was kind to everyone she met, was known for her compassion, warmth, generosity and strength and was a great reader, letter writer and tireless volunteer and fundraiser. She never lost her keen sense of humour and wit and ability to keep a room entertained for hours. She will be deeply missed by her family, her many dear friends and all those who got to know her. A celebration of Stevie's life will be held at St. Hilda's Anglican Church in Sechelt on Thursday, March 20 at 1:30 p.m. and another in White Rock, B.C. at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Mary's Hospital Foundation Society, PO Box 1671, Sechelt, B.C. V0N 3A0.
