BURRY: Ralph Rendle, age 88, passed away March 28, 2005. Born in Vancouver, Feb. 14, 1917. Survived by his wife, Eileen, of 65 years, children Carole (Ted) and Ron (Ellen), grandchildren Cheryl (Steve), Don (Christine), Andrea (Scott), Tricia (Rick), Chris (Adrienne), Mike (Brandy), and great-grandchildren Ryan, Meagan, Nicole, Ashley, Curtis, Trey, Jakub and Hana. Also his brother Doug (Kaye) and sister Alma and numerous nephews and nieces. Ralph was born and spent most of his life in Vancouver working in the shipbuilding industry, which took him all over B.C. and to the Yukon and the N.W.T. He served in W.W. II in the Royal Canadian Navy, stationed in Halifax as a hull surveyor, with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He continued to serve in the Navy Reserve at HMCS Discovery and was a lifetime member. He worked for Allied Shipbuilders until his retirement in 1980. It was at that time that he and
Eileen moved to Sidney, Vancouver Island, where they spent 21 happy years, making friends, going on cruises, and holidays, playing golf and enjoying lie. In 2001 he and Eileen moved to White Rock to be closer to their family. Ralph had many interests during his life. He was in Boy Scouts, including being a leader with his son and son-in-law. He enjoyed pottery, reading (especially B.C. history), and fishing (which included building the family 2 fine pleasure boats). In his latter years, he especially enjoyed hunting for treasures at flea markets and garage sales. He was a lifelong stamp and coin collector. He was a Fellow in the Numismatic Research Society and was well-known across Canada, with many of his articles being published in periodicals.
