Born in Toronto, Ontario on June 9, 1923 passed away peacefully at home in South Surrey on March 9, 2003. He is survived by his loving wife Erica, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. John will be fondly remembered by his only remaining sister Lilian, in-laws, nieces, nephews and countless good friends. Spending his formative years in Toronto, John joined the RCAF straight out of secondary school in 1942, was seconded to RAF Squadron 150, Hemswell, Lincolnshire, flying AVRO Lancaster bombers for Bomber Command. His flying skill, leadership and tenacity ultimately resulted in award of the distinguished Flying Cross. His postwar career encompassed almost 37 years of civil aviation, 32 of which with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. After 41 years overseas, John returned to Canada and settled with Erica in South Surrey. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 2350 - 148 St. Surrey, B.C.
