Sheila Jewell

(1936 - 2006)

Sheila (aka: Mom, Grandma, Gramma J) left us quickly and painlessly on November 6, 2006, just days after returning from a special trip to Niagara Falls with her best friend. Our hearts ache to have lost such a special lady and pillar of our family. Throughout her year-long battle with cancer she sheltered us from the difficult truth about the severity of her illness and continued to exude strength, love and caring for those around her. Throughout her life she had constant, unwavering love and support for her family, especially her grand-kids and grand-animals, whom she would spoil incessantly without blinking an eye. Rarely did she miss a hockey game (her bell is legendary in Okanagan arenas), dance recital, school concert or any other activity her grandkids were involved in. She loved nature and being outdoors, whether it was on the fairways pursuing her true passion, skiing Silver Star, gardening (in her or her kid's gardens), hiking Kal Park, camping at Keefer Lake or embarking on African safaris. If you were a friend of Sheila's, you were a friend for life, with no conditions attached. She lived her life in a way that makes us feel proud and very lucky to call her Mom and Grandma. We will miss her smile, her passion for life, and her unconditional love. Enjoy the rest of your journey, Mom. We will proudly keep your spirit burning down here. We will always love you.

In lieu of flowers, Mom and we would be honoured if you would donate to a charity of your choosing. Mom's two favourite charities were the Canadian Wildlife Federation and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), but please know that SHE would feel best if you donated in a manner that makes YOU feel best.

A celebration to honour Mom's life is being held in Vernon on November 25. Another will be held in the Lower Mainland in the Spring of 2007 so that Mom's Fraser Valley friends can stop by and share some memories with the rest of us. If you would like to be kept apprised of the details of the springtime gathering, please e-mail rjewell@telus.net, or call Ross & Donna at 250-545-3622.
