VERNA MILDRED RADLEY

nee Porterfield

Nov. 20, 1917 - Apr. 3, 2006

Verna, devoted wife of Claude Albert (deceased), died peacefully in her residence on April 3, 2006. She leaves behind her large and loving family: her brother, Arnold Porterfield; her sister, Iola Whitton; her sisters-in law Edith Hicks, Muriel Porterfield and Lois Radley; her children Carol, Diane, Claude, Percy, Iola, Marshal, Reed and Laurel; her 13 grandchildren; and her 13 great grandchildren, the youngest of whom, Jake, was born even as Verna passed.

Verna was born in Star City, Saskatchewan. She was a farm girl, and went on to become a teacher in a one-room prairie schoolhouse. Verna married Claude Albert, whom she knew since childhood, in 1946. They raised their children in Edmonton and Ottawa, where Albert worked for the Federal government and Verna taught school.

In 1974 they retired to White Rock, where they spent more than 30 happy, active years together. She loved traveling, reading, poetry and socializing, lately at Come-Share in White Rock, but her life was definitely centered on her family.

Despite medical setbacks in the last few years that she weathered with courage and strength, Verna remained very much in charge of her life to the very end.

We will miss her greatly.

Reception will be held on Monday April 10 at 1:00 p.m. at the Porterfield Residence 9733 148 A Street, North Surrey. In lieu of flowers, donations in Verna's name may be sent to Come-Share Centre, 15008 26 Ave, Surrey V4P 3H5
